The Third Manhattan

I suppose I should link all zero readers of this blog over to the blog where I have been spending more of my time. Not that I recommend reading it, because it is mostly just personal musings of the wordy variety, and more lengthy vent sessions on some events in my life I want to remember. I thought I should like to keep LostWeeknight.com more terse and to the point, whatever the point is. But I don't want to leave the impression that I have been neglecting LostWeeknight altogether. The Third Manhattan is a blog I've been experimenting with using iWeb, and I suppose I've found that the interface is more fun to use and easier to create and navigate, while seeing what you're creating at the same time. I definitely haven't held back over there, and I may regret linking this one to that, but since no one is reading either (with the possible exception of Raincoaster, God love her) but me, I can't see how much littler it could matter.

First NY TImes Comment Published!

Today I tried an experiment to see how long it would take the NY Times to publish one of my comments, if they chose to at all. The topic was Bob Herbert's column on the Shirley Sherrod fiasco, and his indictment of the mainstream media, along with the Obama administration, was appropriately smug yet conspicuously free of any personal culpability. I don't blame him, I think we were all duped, but in our defense, we're not used to seeing atypical racism at forums on racism put on by champions against racism, and when we did, it mattered little that it had all the credibility of Ashton Kutcher in a Punk'd re-run. When we saw what we saw, we took racism to heights not seen since George Jefferson gave Archie Bunker his valet ticket and told him to fetch his Bentley.

The answer is, the comment was published and it took 7 hours. Is that normal? You tell me. I sense a little discrimination. Shirley Sherrod was fired in far less time.

I love this site and hate it at the same time. You can create an artist's sketch of yourself, or of the person you think stole your newspaper or is not putting the shopping cart back where it belongs. It enables you to select each facial feature, and then play with it until it matches your likeness, or best recollection. The thing I don't like about it is that they trick you into saving it by getting your email address, leading you to believe that they will email you the file, which they don't. They just keep your sketch and email address on file in case anyone browsing the sketches wants to contact you, or report you to the FBI. The way around this is to take a screenshot of it and make your own file, no need to leave an unnecessary paper (or electronic) trail. Give it a go and post your work here.
